Melicia is a native of Clewiston, FL. She was born to the late Henry and Leola Charleston. She received a public school education, followed by receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Bethune Cookman College and also became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She received a Masters of Science in Elementary Education and certification in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. She has spent the last 23 years in the social services and public school system.
For the last 17 years, Melicia has served in the Christian ministry in various capacities. She is very compassionate about helping others in any capacity. Melicia founded the Pearls of Ruth Foundation, Inc. as a way to give back to the community and public education system. She believes everyday is a new day to begin afresh.
